ACADEMIA
Jerry was my Oral's Committee Chairperson when I was pursuing my PhD in the
late 1960s. This 3-4 hour oral examination conducted by several professors in my areas of
interest is vital as it must be passed in order to become a PhD Candidate. Many graduate
students fail this examination so its importance can not be overstated. As expected Jerry
performed this important duty with class and was most helpful in my success in passing. We both
had come along way by then after graduating from Veterinary School together in 1956 for I had
changed my interest in Veterinary Medicine to become a scientist. And, Jerry was already
Professor at UCD. Jerry's importance to my career is not forgotten. Thanks Jerry.
